Amber L. James is
from Nederland, Texas.
She graduated with her Bachelors
and Masters degrees from the University
of Texas at Austin, where she was a
member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
In
2008, she graduated from Texas Tech
University School of Law, where she was
the recipient of an Alumni Leadership
Council Scholarship.
Following her first year of law
school, Ms. James received a grant from
the Student Public Interest Initiative
allowing her to intern for the Texas
Civil Rights Project.
She later went on to serve this
organization as both Fundraising Chair
and Director, amassing more than $20,000
in grant funding for Texas Tech Law
students.
Ms. James also served as
President of the Women’s Caucus for two
years, and was recognized by the Dean of
the law school at the
24th Annual All-University
Conference for the Advancement of Women
in Higher Education.
She was active in advocacy
competitions, winning the Tom Hall
Advanced Moot Court Competition and
receiving the Best Oralist Award, as
well as serving as the Fundraising Chair
for the Board of Barristers.
Ms. James competed as both an
oralist and brief writer on the
Duberstein National Bankruptcy Moot
Court Team.
After graduation, Ms. James
received the
2008 Outstanding Law Student Award from the National Association for Women
Lawyers following nomination by the Dean
of the law school.
Ms. James’ legal
experience includes time spent as a
research assistant and later as the
Acting Assistant Director for the Center
for Biodefense, Law and Public Policy,
where she worked on a federal research
grant in the areas of human subject
research and Biodefense. She has clerked
for the United States Attorney’s Office
for the Eastern District of Texas and
for the Texas General Land Office.
Prior to joining Sprott, Rigby,
Newsom, Robbins, Lunceford & Bell, P.C.
as an associate in the summer of 2009,
Ms. James worked for a small firm in
Beaumont, Texas and later on a large
patent litigation project in Tyler,
Texas.
Ms. James is a
member of the Bankruptcy and Business
Law Sections of the State Bar of Texas,
the Texas Young Lawyers Association, and
the Houston Bar Association.
She is currently licensed by the
Supreme Court of Texas.
